Who We Are
Fifteen years in UK retail, one shop at a time
Prime Food & Wine is an independent Bedford convenience retailer, built on fifteen years of shop-floor experience and one simple idea: a good neighbourhood shop should have what you need, at a fair price, with a friendly face behind the counter.
Our founder, D. Thanigasalam, began his UK retail career at Lamberts Supermarket, learning the trade from the ground up — stock, suppliers, margins and the daily rhythm of serving a local community. Those years shaped an entrepreneur: someone who could see where a shop was falling short, and what it would take to put it right.
Prime Food & Wine was founded in 2022 and has grown steadily since, expanding into joint venture operations from our base as a private limited company at 99 Castle Road, Bedford, England, MK40 3QP. Along the way the business has diversified well beyond its first counter — more ranges, more partners and more reasons for customers to come back.
Looking ahead, the plan stays the same: keep growing, keep diversifying, and keep investing in the shops and the people who run them. Fifteen years in, we are still just getting started.
